Chinese spy ship heading to Australia to monitor war games

The Australian Defence Force is keeping a close eye on a Chinese spy ship spotted in international waters off the Queensland coast.
The Auxiliary General Intelligence ship is expected to monitor the biennial Australia-US war games to be held later this month.
A similar surveillance ship was spotted before the 2017 edition of the Talisman Sabre war games.

The Chief of Defence Joint Operations confirmed yesterday the ADF was aware of presence of the ship, which is believed to have begun its journey towards Australia's shores last week.
"We're tracking it," Lieutenant General Greg Bilton said at the launch of the games in Brisbane yesterday.
"We don't know yet what its destination is but we're assuming that it will come down to the east coast of Queensland and we'll take appropriate measures in regards to that."
Lt Gen. Bilton said China had the right to sail where it liked in international waters.

The vessel's arrival comes after three Chinese warships visited Sydney Harbour last month.
