A Democrat and a Republican working together is a rare sight in America, but for Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings and Fort Worth mayor Betsy Price, it just makes sense.
The two mayors were in Brisbane on Monday, as part of a fortnight’s campaign in Australia to tell the story of their twin Texas cities, in a bid to improve commercial and tourism ties.
Both elected in 2011, the councillors quickly decided to put aside a long-running rivalry between the two cities.
Instead, they decided to work together to improve both their cities, set just half an hour apart with a major international airport between them.
“We have worked together for eight years, telling the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) story,” Mr Rawlings, a Democrat, told Brisbane Times on Monday.
